First Nations from Coast to Coast to Coast to Gather in Halifax, Nova Scotia for AFN Annual General Assembly on July 11-13

(Ottawa, ON): Hundreds of First Nations leadership, Chiefs, Knowledge Keepers, Elders, youth, women and 2SLGBTQIIA+ people from across the country will gather for the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Halifax (Kjipuktuk), Nova Scotia. This event is located on Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people.

DATES: July 11-13, 2023

LOCATION: Halifax Convention Centre 1650 Argyle Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3J 0E6

Media accreditation is required, and media are encouraged to pre-register online: meetings.afn.ca. Media access will be available online and in-person. There is no cost for accredited media to attend. Media access is not available during dialogue sessions on July 10, 2023.

The AFN AGA provides the space for First Nations leaders to discuss and deliberate on First Nations priorities and direct the work of the AFN and the Executive Committee through resolutions.

The AFN AGA will feature discussion and decision-making on critical priorities for First Nations, including updates on the National Climate Strategy, the United Nations Plan Declaration Act Action Plan, safe drinking water, specific claims, policing, governance, and residential institutions.
