FNHMA/CPAC Relationship Agreement

Ottawa, ON (Unceded Territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation), December 7, 2022 – The First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA) and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (the Partnership) signed a Relationship Agreement today that creates a foundation for collaboration between the two organizations for continued efforts towards improving cancer and health outcomes –– for and with First Nations across Canada.

“The FNHMA is excited to enhance the relationship with the Partnership and help build an environment where cancer service delivery includes cultural safety and humility”, says FNHMA CEO, Marion Crowe.

The FNHMA and the Partnership have agreed to work respectfully and reciprocally together across three key areas of collaboration:

  • Information sharing and capacity development initiatives: to develop and deliver information, knowledge, training and development services that benefit the people served by both organizations.
  • Health system initiatives: to enhance relationships between First Nations communities and provincial/territorial cancer systems to foster cultural safety and humility in cancer service delivery.
  • Health leadership initiatives: to support the continued development of leaders in First Nations health and to foster shared learnings of cancer system leaders across Canada.

“I am honoured to sign a Relationship Agreement with the First Nations Health Managers Association on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Nation. This agreement is an important step forward in our efforts to advance the Peoples-specific priorities of the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control,” said Craig Earle, CEO of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (the Partnership). The Partnership deeply values its relationships with First Nations organizations, communities, and governments and looks forward to working together to transform the cancer system to be inclusive and respectful of self-determined priorities and Indigenous worldviews.”
