Grants available to boost agricultural jobs, diversity – Chronicle Journal
Indigenous Ontarians and minority groups are being given a shot at starting a business in the agricultural sector with the help of grants of up to $100,000.
Announced on Tuesday, the $1.5-million program funded by the provincial and federal governments aims to “make sure we have greater diversity in the agriculture and agri-food sectors,” a provincial news release said.
“This initiative will help folks from under-represented groups get started and succeed, while making the sector even stronger,” federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay said in the news release.
The Ontario government said it wants to boost employment in the agriculture sector by 10 per cent over the next eight years.
