June 17, 2022
The City of Hamilton will be commemorating National Indigenous Peoples Day with a celebration in the city hall forecourt.
The June 21 event will honour and celebrate Indigenous traditions and culture from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The city says there will also be “Indigenous knowledge sharing, singing, and drumming.”
“The city remains committed to advancing truth and reconciliation through the ongoing implementation of its locally-focused Urban Indigenous Strategy,” according to an official media release from the city. “It encourages all residents to take time during National Indigenous History Month to educate themselves about Indigenous histories, strengths and important contributions, as well as the intergenerational pain and trauma caused by the residential school system.”
