Hatch and HMM win Ontario Consulting Engineering Awards
Hatch and HMM were recognized at the 14th annual Ontario Consulting Engineering (OCE) Awards Gala held on April 18, 2015, at the International Centre in Mississauga, Canada.
The team of Hatch and Ontario Power Generation received an Award of Merit in the Industry, Energy, and Resources category.
Rick Donnelly, principal power consultant, comments on the win: “The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry challenged a team of experts from Hatch and Ontario Power Generation, with support from Professor Greg Beacher of the University of Maryland, to do something that had never been accomplished before: to develop a Dam Safety Risk Assessment Tool that was capable of determining the probability that a given dam could fail. When we were first asked to do this, I had no idea how such an ambitious undertaking could be accomplished. That is, until I met the world-class team that pulled it all together. This award is a tremendous honor for Hatch and OPG, a valued client, and, for this project, our development partner. The tool and award places Hatch at the forefront of dam safety and, ultimately, will make the world a safer place.”
The tool has now been applied to 12 dams within Ontario between Hatch and OPG, and is setting a benchmark for dam safety policies internationally.

HMM received an Award of Excellence for the Keswick Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) Expansion project. The project added fifty-percent more treatment capacity for servicing future development in the Town of Georgina. The project satisfied stringent effluent limits imposed by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and features the first application of the innovative tertiary ultrafiltration membrane system in Ontario.
