Inuit Sharing Boxes share cultural values for public board students – Simcoe.com

Collingwood resident Muckpaloo Ipeelie is helping promote Inuit traditions with the next generation of students.

She handed out 25 Inuit Sharing Boxes to the Simcoe County District School Board to connect Inuit students with their culture.

“They were created for students to have an Inuit-specific resource,” Ipeelie said. “I found a lot of the education system around here doesn’t understand the Inuit have a particular way of being.”

Ipeelie is founder of the Urban Inuit Identity Project. Her goal is to educate health care, social service and educational facilities about the uniqueness of the Inuit to provide culturally safe care.
