The minority Liberal government’s bid to reinstate the hybrid sitting format implemented with all-party support during the previous parliament could be in place as early as tomorrow, courtesy of a looming closure motion now set to be triggered as soon as the debate resumes this morning.

As iPolitics’ own Aidan Chamandy reported last night, the government served notice that it was prepared to force a final vote on the proposal, which was introduced by Government House Leader Mark Holland earlier this week, and would temporarily amend the House rules to allow MPs to take part in all Commons proceedings via video.

That motion is expected to pass with the support of the New Democrats and over the objections of both the Conservatives and the Bloc Québécois, both of whom have come out strongly in favour of a return to traditional, in-person-only sittings.
