The water drum may be small, but it has a mighty sound.
Unlike drums typically heard at powwows, the water drum can be held in the palm of a hand. Significant to the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) and other Haudenosaunee nations, it gets its name from the water poured inside and used to wet the leather hide that determines the drum’s tone and pitch.
