Media Advisory: Chiefs of Ontario and Hiawatha First Nation Host 50th Anniversary Annual Chiefs Assembly

(Toronto, Ont. – June 13, 2025) From June 17-19, 2025, the Chiefs of Ontario and Hiawatha First Nation will host the 50th Anniversary Annual Chiefs Assembly (ACA) in Hiawatha, Ontario. This milestone gathering will bring together leadership from across the region to address urgent priorities, and to honour 50 years of collective advocacy.

The ACA will include updates and discussions on key areas of focus for First Nations, including:

  • Environmental stewardship and climate
  • Mining and resource extraction
  • Health, education, and social services
  • Housing and infrastructure
  • Policing, justice, and child welfare
  • Research, data sovereignty and governance

A media event will be held on June 17, at 2:00 PM ET. will address critical policy developments impacting First Nations, including the implications of Bill 5 (Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act), which is now law, and the proposed Bill C-5 (One Canadian Economy Act).

Members of the media are cordially invited to attend as follows:
