NAN Statement on Joint Inquest Scope Ruling
May 7, 2015
THUNDER BAY: Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler has issued the following statement following today’s ruling on the scope of the seven youth inquest:
“Late this afternoon the coroner on the seven youth inquest, Dr. David Eden, issued a ruling dismissing the motion by the families and Nishnawbe Aski Nation seeking to put the quality of the Thunder Bay Police Service investigation into the deaths of the seven youth directly in issue. The concerns of the families have been communicated to the office of the Chief Coroner, and Dr. Eden in particular, on repeated occasions over the last several years. NAN is deeply disappointed that the voices of the families and communities leadership have yet again gone unheard by the coroners system. NAN is considering its legal options.”
