NFN: Solidarity with the Families of the 215 Binoojiisag & Support for our Families

by ahnationtalk on June 4, 202112 Views

Nipissing First Nation offers our deepest condolences to the families of the 215 children recently discovered at the former Kamloops Residential School in the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory, and to all survivors of residential schools across Canada.

As news of this horrific discovery is shared around the world, it can trigger unpleasant feelings or memories of past trauma for survivors and their families. We are here to support our Nipissing families and gently remind everyone to practice self-care during this difficult time.

Our staff at Giyak Moseng – The Right Path Counselling and Prevention Services will be available during regular business hours (8:30am to 4:30pm) to support anyone who needs to talk or to connect you with other supports.  Please call 705-753-1375 to be connected to one of our staff.

You can also contact Residential School Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419 to access emotional supports and crisis referral if needed, or the IRSSS (Indian Residential School Survivors Society) Emergency Crisis line at 1-800-721-0066 for counselling support. Both are toll-free and available 24/7.

Additional supports can be found through the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program. Services can be accessed on an individual, family or group basis.
