If there’s any hope of true Truth and Reconciliation, then the celebration of the Indigenous people whose land Canada is built on, and the education and celebration of their culture and history needs to be part of the path taken.

That’s part of the importance behind marking June as National Indigenous History Month and June 21 as National Indigenous Peoples Day.

“National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity for citizens to learn more about the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada — the first peoples of Canada,” said Orangeville Mayor Sandy Brown during a proclamation on June 21.
