The Peel District School Board (PDSB) has taken a historic step toward increasing Indigenous representation, rights and reconciliation with the recent induction of its first-ever Indigenous student trustee, but the Erindale Secondary School student believes there is still more work to be done.
Kawela’tsátste (Austin Chrisjohn) is a member of the Oneida of the Thames First Nation. He was recently elected by his Indigenous peers in Peel region and sworn in alongside student trustees, Justin Ko of the Woodlands Secondary School and Mississauga Secondary School’s Pradwit Thapa, to serve on the board for the 2024-25 academic year.
