Powering Ontario Forward: Bruce Power’s Annual Review and Energy Report highlight a strong year and bright future

Bruce Power has released its 2021 Annual Review and Energy Report,  as Ontario continues to be world leading in the fight against climate change and innovation leading to job creation, economic recovery and new treatments for cancer. The reports showcase the impact the thousands of people who proudly worked and supported Bruce Power throughout 2021 Powering Ontario Forward.

This publication highlights the company’s commitment to providing safe, reliable and carbon-free power to Ontario, while also helping the province achieve climate change goals and cementing Canada’s place as a leader in nuclear medicine.

“I take great pride in our employees, skilled tradespeople and supply chain partners who, through a challenging year in 2021, helped to supply Ontario with carbon-free electricity, and advanced projects that will benefit the province for decades to come,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “We’re proud of the role we play in providing clean energy, live saving medical isotopes, and helping the province recover and grow.”

The report outlines key milestones in the company’s Unit 6 Major Component Replacement Project, its role in Canada’s clean energy future, and how innovation has positioned Canada as a global leader in life-saving medical isotope production.

As outlined in the Energy Report, electrification will significantly increase the need for clean electricity as Ontario moves towards its target of net zero emissions by 2050. Achieving Ontario’s net zero targets will require maximizing the value of our existing clean energy infrastructure.

Hon. Todd Smith, Ontario’s Minister of Energy, commended Bruce Power for its focus on economic recovery and commitments to helping the province reach its climate change goals.

“I commend the Bruce Power team for a successful year that saw billions of dollars injected into our economy to help support people, supply chains and jobs across our communities. Its Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement Projects continue to be key drivers supporting our province’s economic recovery efforts, while also helping Ontario businesses stay competitive and advancing Ontario’s role as a global leader in a clean energy future,” said Minister Smith.

The report also highlights the company’s commitment to the community through its COVID-19 response, including its help with setting up ‘hockey hub’ vaccination clinics throughout the province, and donating about three million pieces of personal protective equipment since the pandemic began in March 2020.
