Ottawa – September 27, 2022 – Today, Kathleen Roussel, Director of Public Prosecutions, announced the tabling in Parliament of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada Annual Report 2021-2022. The report covers the period from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) works to ensure the independent, fair, effective, and timely prosecution of federal offences.

This Annual Report highlights the wide scope of work performed over the last year by its prosecutors, paralegals, crown witness coordinators, administrative and support staff, and includes how the PPSC managed the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had on employees and on the organization. The report also presents the significant investments made by the organization in equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. It launched the Advancement Centre for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, and took concrete steps into creating a bias-free workplace by developing a plan on the matter.

“Our bias-free workplace plan addresses the improvements to be made within the PPSC in how we manage our workforce and indicates how it connects to our mandate and our obligation to reduce over-representation of marginalized groups in the criminal justice system, particularly Indigenous and Black Canadians,” said Kathleen Roussel.

The PPSC also adopted new organizational priorities to reflect the organization’s mandate and its important role in respect to public safety.

The report is now available on the PPSC website.
