LEAF turned 30 this year. Our organization has been working toward equality for women and girls since April 17, 1985, when the equality provisions, s.15 and s.28, were enshrined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

We invite you to join LEAF at the 30th anniversary Persons Day Gala Breakfast.

Our 30th anniversary Persons Day Breakfast will feature Dr. Cindy Blackstock.

Dr. Cindy Blackstock is the Executive Director of First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, Associate Professor, University of Alberta.

A member of the Gitksan First Nation, Cindy has 25 years of social work experience in child protection and Indigenous children’s rights. Her promotion of culturally-based and evidence-informed solutions has been recognized by the Nobel Women’s Initiative, the Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, Frontline Defenders and many others.

Dr. Blackstock has collaborated with other Indigenous leaders to assist the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child in the development and adoption of a General Comment on the Rights of Indigenous children. She has also worked with Indigenous young people, UNICEF and the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to produce a youth-friendly version of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. She is currently completing a Master of Jurisprudence in Children’s Law and Policy at the Loyola University Chicago.

Heather Hiscox, morning host of the CBC News Network will  host the event.

We invite you to save the date: October 21, 2015 to join us for our gala event, which will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Centre in downtown Toronto.

Please join us to celebrate the achievements LEAF has made in the last 30 years, and be inspired for the work that is yet to come.
