Monthly Survey of Manufacturing, November 2022
Manufacturing sales were unchanged in November with higher sales in the motor vehicle and fabricated metal industries offset by lower sales in the chemical and petroleum and coal product industries.
Investment in building construction, November 2022
Investment in building construction declined 1.4% to $20.4 billion in November, with most of the drop coming from Alberta (-5.6%). The residential sector decreased 2.0% to $ 14.9 billion, while the non-residential sector edged up 0.2% to $5.5 billion.
Experimental indexes of economic activity in the provinces and territories, September 2022
The three-month moving averages for economic activity increased in 7 of the 10 provinces and territories reported for September 2022, according to the principal components analysis-based experimental activity index. The largest gains were in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. The largest declines were in Prince Edward Island and the Northwest Territories.
Housing economic account, 1961 to 2021
Total residential dwellings reached 16.4 million units in 2021, representing a stock value of $3.4 trillion. Strong growth in housing investment in 2021 drove Canada’s net stock of residential assets up 18.7%, representing 21% of national wealth. The productive activity related to investment in residential housing was associated with over 1.3 million jobs and $141.3 billion in gross domestic product (GDP).
Study: Postsecondary students receiving payments from the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) in 2020
Today, Statistics Canada is releasing a research paper entitled “Postsecondary students receiving payments from the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) in 2020.” This paper provides insights into the differences in the rate of receipt of CERB and CESB among students enrolled in postsecondary education at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The emergency benefits payments are examined by various educational and socio-economic characteristics.
Industrial Water Survey, 2020
Thermal-electric power producers continued to be Canada’s largest industrial user of water in 2020, a trend observed since 2005, which was the first year the survey was collected.
Traffic flow dashboard
Statistics Canada has launched the Traffic Flow Dashboard as a source of experimental statistics to provide information on the traffic flow on selected road segments in the cities of Calgary and Toronto.
