Nominal gross domestic product of the culture and sport sectors increased across most of the country in 2018, rising by 2.3% to $61.9 billion or 3.0% of the total economy. This compares with growth of 4.0% for the total economy.

In 2018, exports of culture (such as arts, films and music) and sport products increased 7.1% to $18.6 billion, outpacing imports which rose 4.2% to $25.1 billion.
Younger age profile of women in professional occupations
The Canadian labour market has evolved considerably over the last four decades, and most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact. The longer-term effects of the pandemic on various industries and occupations will need to be viewed in the context of an aging workforce. A new study released today in the Labour Statistics: Research Papers series (75-004-M) examines the prevalence and age composition of working Canadians by occupation, through a gender and diversity lens.
Food services and drinking places, August 2020
Sales in the food services and drinking places subsector increased 6.4% in August. Receipts at full-service restaurants rose 10.4% as dining rooms and patios kept restaurant sales growing during the summer months. Sales at limited-service restaurants increased by 3.4%, while sales at drinking places grew 14.4%, as bars, pubs and some nightclubs continued to reopen. Sales of special food services were relatively unchanged (+0.1%).
