Canadian international merchandise trade, December 2024
In December, Canada’s merchandise exports increased 4.9% and imports were up 2.3%. As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade balance with the world went from a deficit of $986 million in November to a surplus of $708 million in December.

Of international students who graduated in 2020 and who were still in Canada in 2023, 88.6% were employed. In comparison, the 2023 employment rate for 2020 graduates who were not international students was 91.0%.
Elementary-secondary education: Finances, students and educators, 2022/2023
In 2022/2023, 5.8 million students were enrolled in Canadian elementary and secondary school programs, with the vast majority attending public schools (91.3%). However, the share of students in private schools (7.7%) increased for the second consecutive year, while the proportion of homeschooled students (0.9%) continued to decline, approaching levels observed before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Canada’s monthly international trade in services deficit narrowed to $0.1 billion in December. Overall, imports of services declined 1.2% to $18.2 billion, while exports of services were up 0.8% to $18.1 billion.
