Tungasuvvingat Inuit invites the Vanier community to fill in a heart for the 215 children of Kamloops.
VANIER, ON – Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) is holding a special outdoor event at our offices located at 297 Savard Avenue in Vanier, ON to honour the 215 children of the Kamloops residential school. 215 hearts are available for members of the Vanier community to stop by and add personal messages. The event is taking place outdoors and all COVID-19 protocols are being followed.
We welcome our friends and neighbours of the community to join in solidarity during a very difficult time. This is an opportunity to come together as one voice and one community to support the families in BC and honour the memory of the children. All messages will be attached to a stake in the grassy area in front of our location on Savard Avenue. Once complete, all 215 hearts will remain on display with the powerful messages provided by our community in Vanier and beyond.
Tungasuvvingat Inuit provides almost thirty unique programs and services to the more than 6000 Inuit that now reside in Ontario. By ratio, Inuit are the largest Indigenous population in the national capital region and community and culture are centred in all programming and services offered by TI.
The event runs until 4:30 on Thursday, June 10th and again all day on Friday, June 11th until 4:30.
We look forward to seeing our friends and neighbours to share their special messages on the orange hearts. This is an opportunity to join and heal as one. Healing is not an individual process; it is a collective responsibility. May the memory of these children continue and provide a catalyst for real change.
