Vigil against gender-based violence planned in Port Elgin – The Shoreline Beacon

Women killed or assaulted because of their gender will be remembered and honoured at a vigil marking the National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Gender-based Violence at noon, Dec. 6, in downtown Port Elgin’s Coulter Parkette.

Hosted by Canadian University Women (CFUW) Southport, the 31st annual Vigil Against Violence Against Women returns to an in-person event this year after COVID restrictions last year.

CFUW Southport spokeswomen Pat Sanagan asked for, and received, support from Town of Saugeen Shores councillors for the vigil and on-going efforts to fight gender-based violence.

During a Nov. 22 committee of the whole meeting via Zoom, Sanagan said some may ask: Why do we still need a vigil?
