The initial version of the agenda for a trip to an Islamic Heritage Month exhibition was posted online, sparking a backlash.
Field trips are again under scrutiny, this time at the York Region District School Board.
A visit by students this week to an Islamic Heritage Month exhibition sparked controversy after an initial agenda was leaked online indicating it would include a five-minute reading from the Qur’an.
Board officials removed the reading from the final agenda, but the initial version was posted online, spurring intense backlash, which in turn left some Muslim families feeling targeted.
The incident comes as field trips are being put under a microscope, with the province investigating Toronto’s public school board after students last month attended a rally about Indigenous rights that attracted pro-Palestinian protesters.
