Michipicoten First Nation (MFN) is a vibrant Anishinaabe community located on the white sands (Northeast shores) of Lake Superior near Wawa, Ontario. The registered population is approximately 1,400, with 70 citizens living on the reserve. With a strong sense of community and cultural identity, Michipicoten First Nation strives to maintain harmony and balance with Mother Earth, neighbouring First Nations, and surrounding communities.
Under the supervision of the Manager, Health and Social Services, the Family Support Worker assists Michipicoten members facing personal challenges by linking them to appropriate programs and services. A major focus of this role is coordinating and completing Jordan’s Principle applications. The Family Support Worker identifies client needs, supports action planning, and acts as a systems navigator to ensure culturally competent and practical support. Some travel and work outside of office hours may be required. This is a full-time permanent position that may be based out of Michipicoten First Nation or Sault Ste. Marie.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training
- Post-secondary diploma in Family Support, Child & Youth Work, Social Work, Social Sciences, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years in social services.
- Experience working with First Nation communities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in MS Office and internet-based tools.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and the impacts of trauma.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated bi-cultural competencies.
Other Requirements
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Satisfactory driver’s abstract and Vulnerable Sector Check.
LOCATION Michipicoten First Nation or Sault Ste. Marie (MFN satellite office)
TERM: Permanent, Full-time
WAGE RANGE: $33.39/hr – $37.19/hr
