Brantford’s new police chief says it feels good to be home.
It has been a hectic few days for Rob Davis, on the job since Monday, as he settles into his new role heading the 185-member force.
But there’s a lot that’s familiar to Davis, Brantford’s first Indigenous police chief, who grew up in Ohsweken and still has friends and relatives living in the area.
The 48-year-old began his policing career in 1990 as an auxiliary constable with the Haldimand-Norfolk regional police. He joined the Six Nations force in 1994, starting as a constable, then inspector and finally acting deputy chief.
During his time with the Six Nations force, Davis also served on secondment for three years to the RCMP in Ottawa and, for a year, in Ontario’s Far North with the Nishawbe Aski Police Service.
