Niagara Health – Organizational Updates

After 30 plus years at Niagara Health, Angela Zangari’s, Executive Vice-President, Finance, Redevelopment, and Facilities/Chief Financial Officer has made the difficult decision to retire on May 31, 2024. Our sincere thanks and gratitude to Angela for her dedication and leadership to the organization.

As we plan for a smooth transition over the coming months, please see below our plan for portfolio changes across Niagara Health.

Niagara Health has begun discussions to immediately identify an interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and EVP Finance to come into the role on a temporary basis. Given the close alignment in work, Strategic Sourcing will continue to report into the interim CFO/EVP Finance, as of course will the Finance department.

Simon Akinsulie, Executive Vice-President, Practice, Clinical Support and Chief Nursing Executive, will be taking interim responsibility for Environmental Services, Facilities Management, Patient Transportation, Food Services, and Clinical Nutrition. We believe these portfolios fit nicely with the clinical support team already working within this portfolio.

Harpreet Bassi, Executive Vice-President, Strategy & Communications, will oversee Capital Planning and Redevelopment on an interim basis. The existing significant collaboration between these portfolios, particularly with various governments and provincial agencies, should enable continuity of the work underway. Harpreet, with her academic background, will be the permanent Executive Sponsor for the Research portfolio and Niagara Health Knowledge Institute.

As a part of this transition, the Indigenous Health Services and Reconciliation portfolio will transition to Linda Boich, Executive Vice President, Patient Experience and Integrated Care. We recognize that to effectively expand of the impact the Indigenous Health Services and Reconciliation Team, it is best suited to be embedded within a portfolio aimed to improve patient outcomes and experiences.

In addition, the Chief of Staff/Vice-President Medical role has been initiated and the Selection Committee is in the final stages of confirming members and next steps.

These changes will occur over the coming months allowing for a transfer of knowledge and an adjustment period for our teams.
